About US

Catawba Valley Racing Pigeon Club (CVRPC) is located close to down town Maiden, about 15 minutes south of Hickory, NC.

 

CVRPC club is sanctioned by the American Racing Union, a national pigeon organization located in Oklahoma. 

 

CVRPC is a member of the Carolina Racing Pigeon Combine which included Asheville, Gastonia, and Charlotte.

Members

Members of Catawba Valley Racing Pigeon Club come from a variety of backgrounds with different life experiences.

 

We all joined Catawba Valley to share a common hobby, the love of pigeon and their history with man kind.

 

We have members extending from Statesville to Morganton, and Gastonia.

Events

Twice a year, Catawba Valley Racing Pigeon Club joined other clubs in the Carolina Racing Pigeon Combine to compete against each other.

 

Old Bird Races are release in the Spring and Young Bird Races are release in the Fall.

 

All Pigeon Races are enjoyed and participated by all Fanciers and their family members.

Get Involved

Racing Pigeon was cultivated in Europe in the early 1800s, but messenger pigeons has been around for thousands of years.

 

Ancestors of today's pigeon has been used by people, as a source of communication, all over the world for centuries.

 

Today, members of ages still enjoyed this hobbyCome join us and learn about this beautiful history  of man and his birds.

Historical 1

Over 200,000 pigeons were used by the Allies in both World War I & II

Historical 2

The pigeon "Cher Ami" served in US Army Signal Corps and saved over 200 American soldiers trapped behind Enemy line.

Historical 3

October 1943 the pigeon "G.I. Joe" flew 20 miles in 20 minutes and saved over two thousand British Soldiers before scheduled bombing

1978, United States of America dis-banded the use of messenger pigeon in US army signal corps

2013, China added messenger pigeons to Chinese Military Signal Corps to well over 2,000 pigeons
